NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 5. Bulk reel: 57
I'm not sure that these "hoots" are given by this species. They seem to be similar to those from Guyana (by memory) that circumstantial evidence linked to this species. In the present case they also came from the edge of the cacaotolos where I know some P. perspicillata were living and where I often heard their normal song. Playback at the time of recording brought no reaction, but I was no doubt too far away.
On subsequent occasions I tried playback on other individuals and in two cases there seemed no doubt that they reacted to these "hoots," in one case rather strongly (see Cut #6). However, in a couple other experiments there seemed to be no reaction. And even when the owls reacted, they sang their normal songs and did not give "hoots" in reply. Quality: 2. Level: +10.
