NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 8. Bulk reel: 43
a) When I arrived at this spot, I heard none of these owls and played the field tape. Shortly, one began to sing near @ hand. It started with a rather "hesitant" song; then the song becomes more normal. Quality: 1. Level: +5.
Its song is of lower pitch, while in background is heard one with higher pitch. (Further in background can be heard one or two more.)
In background in first part is Nyctidromus albicollis; then O. choliba in later part.
The owl in focus (lower voice) was then collected and proved to be male of gray-brown phase.
b) Recording of bird with higher voice. Playback failed to bring it any closer and so could not be collected for sex determination. Caprimulgus rufus in background. Quality: 2. Level: +10.
