NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 55. Bulk reel: 32; Extra cut(s) on bulk reel: 33; Extra cut length: 10:00
Weather: Cloudy, fair. 138 tape.
a) 5:50 AM. Natural dawn song, bird #1 (near). Quality: 1. Level: +3.
Then this bird stops and another is heard in background. Then it stopped and the near bird (#1) started again.
Then #1 stopped again when #2 started again. Then #1 starts again.
Then focus shifts to background bird with both birds singing; then to #1 again.
6:00 AM. Just as the truck passed my tape reel finished. With new reel on the background bird was giving one-figure succession. Shortly thereafter a bird fairly near again took up dawn song, probably #1, frightened by the truck, now in a new position. Quality: 2. Level: +3.
b) Now after playback, Bird #1. (Loud cicadas.) Then this bird is attached by jays (C. yncas) and the Micrastur "escaped" by dropping into the underbrush. The jay then flew up to a high perch and away. Quality: 3 to "1-2." Level: +3.
About 5' later the Micrastur sang again, briefly.
