NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 2. LNS Bulk reel: 06
21 Feb 1972. Time: P.M. Weather: Clear. South side bird (two songs). Quality: 2-3. Level: +3. 203 tape. Std. 7.5 ips.
(The north side birds didn't sing tonight, or else were far away and I didn't hear them.) Quality: 2-. Level: +3. Nagra III recorder; EV 650 microphone; 24" parabola. 7.5 ips. 203 Std.
22 Feb 1972. Time: 11:40 PM. Weather: Cloudy, fair. The north side Type 2 "slept" in ~ usual place tonight but the Type 1 was apparently far away. Type 2 sang ~ 10:55 PM but no Type 1 answered, nor sang first, that I heard. In order to induce Type 2 to sing, so I could record, I played a recording of his mate (Type 1) and he responded. Quality: 2. Level: +3. Nagra IV; Sennheiser 405; 24" parabola. 3.75 ips. 203 tape. LN.
In the present recording is heard my recording of the Type 1 and the response of the Type 2: a long song, then after a little delay some isolated single calls.
At end is my ~ imitation of the song that had been given by the Type 2 bird @ 10:55 PM. At this time I thought the Type 2 song was probably given by the female. Level: +3. 3.75 ips.
Note: Further playback brought no vocal reaction by the Type 2 bird; I've noticed that this occurs naturally too: bird responds once but then not again to its mate's call, at least until much later when the mate may sing again.
