NOTES: (Time: 2100-2200 hrs. Bkground Sounds: The Turnix are far and in background. Gen. Climate: Arid, cyclic wet-dry.) Our field assistants and indeed all local naturalists when asked told us these nocturnal calling animals were hedgehogs. I had doubts and because of the numbers we were seeing of these T. sylvatica assumed it was they. This now is proved by comparison with recordings held at LNS of Helen Lapham's captive birds. This 1986 was a year of heavy rains.
