NOTES: (RRN: 90-25-12-13,15; Range Status: accidental?; Breeding Status: breeding; Sound Delivery Rate: agitated; General Climate: cyclic wet-dry; Cover Density: sparse; Filtering: yes) **** I feel quite confident that this was a male and female Yellow Bellied Sapsucker, the male had no red crown and the female had no red on the neck. this is quite out of range for these birds according to the field guides. Perhaps they nest in our high mountains more than previously thought. the adults are giving alarm calls at my proximity to the nest [in an aspen 5m above ground]. [I didn't ID the bird by voice on tape because I couldn't believe my eyes.] BNA: Probably the "Waa Call" (Call Note: "chee-aa" call) as well as Nestling calls (Chatter Notes) of young (we-we-we-we call). CZ 08/03/2004. Number of individuals=AU2NU2+;. Other Behaviors: Emit Alarm, Establish Parent Young Contact, Social Context: Family. Habitat: Forest, Coniferous Forest, Deciduous Forest, Montane Grassland.
