NOTES: Recorded by: Mrs. J. F. M. Horne while with Mr. and Mrs. D. McChesney & Andrew Williams.
Background: DOVE SP. (POSS. TURTUR TYMPANISTRIA); Beh. context: UNKNOWN; Cover density: THICK; SOME GUTTERAL NOTES FOLLOWED BY BEAUTIFUL CLEAR NOTES, SOMETIMES A WHISTLE TO END. THE RESULT OF PLAYBACK WAS TO MAKE THE BIRD REDOUBLE ITSEFFORTS AT A SLIGHTLY INCREASED PACE. ULTIMATELY ALSO TO MAKE IT MOVEITS POSITION AND THUS GIVE A CHANCE TO SEE AND IDENTIFY IT. UPON PLAYBACK, ANDREW WILLIAMS WAS ABLE TO COLLECT A SPECIMEN (HORNE TAPE NO.1)ALTHOUGH THE SECOND ONE WE FAILED TO PICK UP. THE REACTION WAS THE SAME IN BOTH CASES - A RENEWED EFFORT IN SOUND AND ULTIMATELY MOVEMENT, USUALLY NEARER TO THE SOUND OF PLAYBACK. EQUATORIAL FOREST, HIGH CANOPY WITH THICK SECONDARY AND TERTIARY GROWTH. RECORDED MORNING AND LATE AFTERNOON. MALE?
