Media notes
Initially natural songs by an unseen bird that was 3-5 meters up and about 20 meters away in the mid-levels of good terra firme forest near where I had been recording my second woodcreeper on the north side of the logging road about one kilometer beyond logging camp. In response to playback, the trogon approached and essentially did a circle around me using four different perches, each one about 10-12 meters up and 10-15 meters away. During the second part of this recording, when it was over a large leafcutter-ant mound, the forest understory was quite open. Although the song was essentially the same, the intervals between the songs may have been reduced following playback. I saw this bird quite well and it appeared to be an immature male (described on tape in moderate detail). Wing fluttering is heard whenever the bird switched perches. ML: 75 Hz high-pass scientific filter applied in Adobe Audition CC 2015 to all segments. Equipment Notes: Sennheiser powered using phantom power and with filter in flat position and attenuator off for all recordings. Nagra input set at 2 mV / Pa and low-pass filter in flat position unless noted otherwise.
