what is threatening bird . . . deforestation, how much went on, what did Maui used to look like when these birds were thriving . . . ?
on all sides of the island forests continued all the way down to the sea ... l:37 when first Polynesians arrived--6-800 yrs ago, they found forest thriving w/ birds many more species community completely diff, very rich, there has been 95% of pouli bird's habitat has been eliminated (need to check)

a lot of people would say memorial service for a bird, that's ridiculous
why is it any more redic for a special person . . . . appropriate in that we recognize a loss . . .
what does name porouli mean
HI prob had a name for it but when discovered in 73 Hi woman asked to name the bird and she named it black-headed honeycreeper

--not able to judge based on one nest, found one in mossy part of tree.
