NOTES: ALTHOUGH THIS BIRD HAS PERHAPS THE MOST DISTINCTIVE VOICE OF ANY CISTICOLA I KNOW, THERE IS A REMARKABLE AMOUNT OF VARIATION IN THE SONG; IN THIS CUTTHE BIRD PRODUCES 3 SONG TYPES PLUS A 'CHAARE' SCOLD PLUS SONG; IN LNS 14368 THERE ARE 3 TYPES OF SCOLD PLUS SONG. THE BIRD SITS STOLIDLY AND PROMINANTLY ON THE TOP OF AN ACACIA TREE AND DELIVERS THE SONG AGAIN AND AGAIN. THE COMBINATION OF THE SONG AND THE SCOLD IS INTERESTING.IN SPITE OF ALL THIS VARIATION THE SONG OR SCOLD ARE INSTANTLY RECOGNIZABLE ANYWHERE. SEE THE LYNES MONOGRAPH, 1930, P.247 FOR AN EXCELLENTDESCRIPTION OF THE VOICE.
