on balcony

0:13 cm the trick is you watch the water

0:22 ac
THERE IT IS! **

water in bckground

0:55 ac
that's no more than 1/2 a mile away

describing what they see

1:47 cm yeah look see the mother there and the baby playing

2:17 cm and of course if you go in the water you can hear them, i've heard them in the water but never saw them

2:30 cm there!**

ac oh!

water ambi in background

3:15 cm after i found out who my ancestors were--a-heva-heva-nui--he was a priest w/ cam-eal i know why i am doing what i am doing ...

3:32 cm and its really awesome, only about seven years ago i found out where i came from our family was the missing link in the ruling chiefs, in 1790 my great-great great ...grandfather came from scotland w first ship that had rum on it and camemma and chief came on the boat and first time he tasted rum and james maxwell, the captain of the boat married heva-nui's granddaughter and they changed his name to mac-uela, and then it was good to english name ...changed back (talks about names) ...

6:22 lg its about 11:30 am on 3/7 continue recording at building at NMS

First on balcony

sony tcdpro2 mkh mics cado on left fig 8 on right

7:12 waves from balcony of NMS building good wave, wind ambi--to 11:24

NEXT: same perspective, but turned low cut filter on, about three minutes

11:43 waves, wind ambi ends at 15:11

15:15 lg now w mic right on down at the base of the rocks, foot of building, base cut filter on

15:40 ambi water, lapping waves, slapping up against rocks to 18:33--

19:20 recording gets bad --to 19:44

20:28 lg mic up on a rock 4/5 ft from water's edge, perspective that allows the roar of waves to be heard

20:51-25:44

25:53 lg after int 3 recordings to try to put together ambi behind interviews, when made interview sea was to left of the mics ...so with mics being so close the sea constituted fairly even roar ...two recordings on balcony almost same spot of recording

1) no filter
2) low cut filter from sony machine switched on, cut out some of the wind roar

next recording very close

final recording on rock about six to eight feet from water's edge so can here waves hitting rocks as well as waves breaking...waves are breaking on rock reef about 60 yds from shore, v.v.v calm sea, small waves but because of length of reef there tends to be continuous roar

behind int mix of the sound recorded on balcony with stereo perspective together with hint of 2nd recording, but more of third recording on rocks ...should effectively mask across any of the edits in the rest of the interview--

29:30 AMBI: (still in same location) surf, kids playing in water

34:55 lg
4:23 pm dock of Lahaina, people working on boats

35:18 AMBI, motor humming, people talking, voices over radio, clanking of metal, water lapping in bckground ...to 37:13

37:21 lg gen ambi of breakwater shelter of boats, gen activity wi coming and going not very busy at the moment

37:49 AMBI: voice over radio, helicopter to 38:52

39:02 lg same, but mic on stand, AMBI clanking of metal, water, motor, voices, birds, helicopter, voice over radio to 43:58

more same ambi. to 47:35

47:53 ambi, can hear whale watching cruiser to 49:30

49:33
more ambi, boat motor, low humming, gets louder, voice over radio to 55:25

55:30 lg one of passenger boats about to come in harbor AMBI: 55:41 to 58:36

58:46 lg Under the Banyan tree: meeting place for people, buses in street near tree, birds--starlings

59:24
AMBI can hear music in background, people talking, BIRDS, motor to 1:05:43
