NOTES: CHIPS AND SONG.1ST. BIRD. (NUMBER DESIGNATIONS ARE THOSE OF R.S. LITTLE.) HUSKY CHIPS ARE FROM D. KIRTLANDII. [The first part of this recording contains a variety of calls and two songs that I suspect were given by this species, despite their being quite unusual (0:40, 2:07 - most likely Type II songs). Among the calls are "chip" notes much like those of Melospiza lincolnii (e.g., 0:375, 0:385, 0:39, 0:495, 0:51, 0:59...) that were certainly given by this species. I further suspect that thin, doubled "sit-it" calls are alarm calls by this species (e.g., good examples at 0:55, 0:555, 0:56, 1:215, 1:23, 1:24, 1:27...), but the single "chip" calls throughout (but quite clearly at 1:08, 1:145, 1:205, 1:22, 1:25, 1:27, 1:29) are those of Spizella passerina. The second part of the recording has 14 songs, all of a song type that is superficially similar to those in LNS #13962-13967, 13969-13974, 13976, but more unique than are most songs of this general type. Quality changed from 1 to 2, 1-2 (the calls are quality 2 and the songs 1-2) - CAM - 30 June 2005]
