600+ individuals arriving at evening roost in chimney of Belle Sherman School. Birds began arriving in small numbers then swelling to a flock of over 600 birds flying in a circular pattern over the chimney. The birds circled the chimney in a clockwise fashion, with the chimney at the NE edge of their circle. The estimated count was made at the time the flock appeared most dense. The flock spiraled for several minutes and then rapidly descended into the chimney. Wing sounds and vocalizations in close proximity to the microphones, birds at times within inches of the microphones, are obvious at this point in the recording. Vocalizations from the birds inside the chimney are most obvious at 12:52 into the recording (incl. the catalog number announcement) and sound somewhat different from the calls given in flight. The record level of the Nagra was increased at the end of the recording to provide a higher signal level of the "in-chimney" vocalizations.
