Notes
NOTES: Large flocks of scoters were active in the channel. Birds were diving and feeding along the rock jetty. Many males were calling. Usually in small groups with females present. There appeared to be atleast two call types. The longer, melancholy whistles presumably given by courting males, and short piping whistles (2:35) which may serve as contact calls. The first segment of this recording was made with a telinga mono parabola - the remainder with the 30" roche. Loud wing whistle in this recording belongs to Surf Scoter (compare to LNS 130901).
