NOTES: Unseen bird was 8-10 meters away and <1 meter up in the relatively dense vegetation of the understory of scrubby forest along the trail down the slope to the upper arm of the new reservoir; this was recorded after my ÒsqueakingÓ and ÒspishingÓ which seemed to get it to call more but it did not really approach; it had been calling more before I got onto it; based on the description of the birds by my guide (Nilo Pinto de Sousa), I suspect this species rather than Conopophaga lineata was the expected gnateater at this site; partly cloudy, breezy, 83¡ F.
