NOTES: SONG-LIKE SOUND. FEMALE IDENTIFICATION QUITE CERTAIN. 1 MALE(S)
LNS Note: Unbroken cut with internal recordist announcement/handling noise gain change (MJA, 14Feb2005).
BNA: [These songs appear to alternate between two distinct song-types. Unlike the dichotomy pictured in Figure 2 of the BNA account, the songs in this recording either have or completely lack pure tones. Songs ending in pure tones are at 0:00 (recorder gaining speed), 0:02, 0:09, 0:20, 0:22, 0:24, 0:28, 0:33, and 0:38 (distant). Songs apparently lacking pure tones are at 0:05, 0:11, 0:17, and 0:29. The text of the account is too weak to assess whether this is the true dichotomy in this species' songs, but the spectrograms that I have examined so far suggest that there is far more here than the subtle distinction between songs beginning with pure tones or not. Both "check"calls and a sharp "chip" call are scattered throughout this recording, but is is unclear whether the latter calls were given by this species or instead Sayornis phoebe. I suspect, however, that they were given by the blackbird even though this is not a call described in BNA. Quality unchanged (2) - CAM - 19 January 2005]
