NOTES: Bird was 15-20 m away and initially about 2 m up in dead Coyote Brush (Baccharis pilularis), but then flew to small Coast Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia) and perched about 4 m up at top and called before dropping down into Baccharis and Sticky Monkey Flower (Mimulus aurantiacus); in all, bird was 1-6 m up and well seen; this was recorded after I had flushed the bird and used some ÒspishingÓ to get it to pop up and call, after which, the bird indeed popped up and began calling; recorded along Rattlesnake Flats Trail at saddle at top of hill above Coon Creek (35¡ 15' 24Ó N, 120¡ 52' 30Ó W); the referenced recording said to be made earlier was not copied; slight breeze at my back but conditions otherwise similar (clear, breezy, mid-60s). [This represents primarily the loud "Churrip" or "Hreek" Call of BNA, but there is also a brief wing flutter when the flew. Quality unchanged (1-2) - CAM - 21 October 2005]. Other Behaviors: Mate. Habitat: Evergreen Forest, Chaparral, Scrub.
