NOTES: This was recorded after a pair of these birds was seen following approach to ÒspishingÓ and Òowl whistles,Ó but singing bird was not seen and Western Tanagers were in the canyon; unseen bird was about three-quarters of the way up what appeared to be a Douglas Fir in canyon bottom above streambed around foundation of an old house (where the canyon began to close in with many maples, sycamores, and oaks on hillside); clear, calm at the moment but a 5 knot breeze coming down canyon at others, mid-50s.
