BAY: XNOTES: Notes from tape: "There are other whales within 300 yards of the vessel on the surface. Two animals, starboard side (3:39). One animal breaching off the stern quarter (4:43). A lot of snapping shrimp in the background now (6:44). Humpback rolled just off the starboard stern, 100 yards. And it blows again, rolls at the surface, transiting across the stern. Animal still singing. (3 seconds later:) Blow (comment began at 10:37). Blows again (11:11). Blows again. Animal's on the starboard now (11:23). Coming up - surface ratchet (13:16). "

Notes from data sheet: Cruise: Osprey; Rel bearing: 80¡; snapping shrimp; Depth: 12 fathoms; hydrophone: 4-element sonobuoy; Gain: slightly less than 2. Start 410-734 - end on the counter; 15 seconds between tapes 1&2; Start 0-161 on counter. Just at end of tape 2, leatherbacks surfaced 15 yards from "Osprey" starboard beam. Approximately 4PM saw 7-8 dolphins.
