NOTES: Discovered by Matt Tarr, this bird was a first state record.
[This recording contains approximately 221 examples of the primary call given by this species in the breeding season (the "kickee-doo" call of BNA and others), but some of the calls in the early part of the recording are so distant as to be almost imperceptable (e.g., 0:30-1:20). I personally saw and heard this same bird on 22 May 2003 with a group of about 35 others. The text below was taken directly from my notes for this day. My notes further indicated that this bird was first found during the day on 19 May 2003, and that the site was adjacent to a powerline cut that crossed Moulton Avenus at the edge of a housing development in Greenland (on the coastal plain but about ten miles from the coast). Quality unchanged (3, 2 - best after 6:00) - CAM - 7 April 2005]
["Somewhat surprisingly, the bird had been located in what amounted to little more than a wet spot in a grassy field with scattered small, alder trees. It appeared that the area frequented by the bird was where a small stream broadened at the edge of the field producing a small ÒmarshÓ in which the grass was maybe 25 cm in height. Although there were a few cattails, most of the vegetation was fresh grass." - CAM]
