NOTES: Includes 440Hz calibration tone. Notes from tape: "Not sure if the animals seen 200 yards from the boat include the caller. Gain: 42." Notes from field log: "Position: ~6 miles due East of Magdalena's SE corner. Est. range: 400-500 yards. Other species present: None seen. Movements: Towards Cleofas. Photographs: yes. Weather: clear. Sea state and noise: 1-2; large swells. Depth: >200' deep. Propulsion & aux. noise: swim step slapping. Recorder: Uher. Hydrophone: CH-1a. Filters: 100Hz 'conditioner.' Gain: 43. Est. # of songs: 3-4. Peculiarities: recognizable song from last year (at least portions). Notes: Some behavioral correlation likely. Uher drive belt screamed awhile - necessitated turning off & on instantaneously. Breached near beginning. Trying to move up on him for Cut #2 - did not get it."
MLNS notes: speed was off. Based on 440Hz tone, I set the speed to 2.6ips. Used hi-shelf filter on the ZSys z-Q2 equalizer set down 95dB above 1.6kHz for the first section (first 19:43 after start of cut). Zsys filter off for the second part of the cut due to higher harmonics detected on spectrogram. [21Oct03 CB]. SEAOCEAN
