Sound identified as Minke Whale, Balaenoptera sp., by Chris Clark. Copy of recording sent to Jason Gedamke for verification. Jason verified Minke identification, and feels it may be B. bonaerensis rather than B. acutorostrata scammoni, but cannot make a definitive declaration. Recordist saw a Cetacea sp. surface 10 minutes prior to recording this cut. Megaptera novaeangliae are present in background.

Recording Log: "2340 - North end of bank. Tape #8 cut#3 Unk sound. Whale blew w/in 100 yds of boat while under power - course toward Nuku'alofa - fish sounds also present and distant humpback song. Songs not good enough level to record. Unk sound trailed off in level - cut lasted about 10-15 min. Thompson on watch. Weather - clear, calm, light seas and wind approx 5 knots." SEAOCEAN
