NOTES: 127 songs of BIRD #3 recorded at dawn (6:28:02); the previous tape ended at 5:51:38 am, with this cut beginning at 5:54:41 am, after I missed about 12 songs and one long call; this cut contains vocalizations recorded during an interaction between two birds; bird was seen only in flight for the early part of this cut, better later on; the bird crossed the logging road about five minutes into cut, when it moved about 50 meters in the direction that he had come from; before moving, the bird was 25 meters up and the same distance away; after it moved, I crept up on the bird until it was 35 meters away and about 30 meters up; the bird flew out again at 6:09:11 am; when I got back onto bird, it was 30 meters away and 25 meters up in a densely vegetated tree during what was apparently a territorial interaction (though less likely one between the members of a pair); at this time, the birds were quite close (12 meters away) and only 2-5 meters up, with one of the birds seen well; the singing bird was as near to me as 10 meters (and as far as 50 meters) as it moved through the undergrowth in a direction parallel to the road; this was an unbroken cut (17/47/35/20/5/3), with the slashes referring to the birds moving, rather than breaks in the tape; many songs in latter part were run together so the number of songs is a bit subjective; the long call at the end of the cut appeared to be given by the second bird; towards the end of the cut, the singing bird moved about 20 meters back from road, though still remaining quite low; recorded off the west side of Estrada do Gave¿ on an unmarked logging road, 2.1 km. N Estrada do Caing¿ (sustainable forestry plot Ð Bloco A [19¡ 04' 32" S, 39¡ 54Õ 17" W]); more clouds approaching, calm, 74 ¡F. ML: Subject changed from recordist's original identification of Xiphorhynchus guttatus guttatus to Xiphorhynchus guttatus [guttatus Group] to conform to eBird Taxonomy (v. 1.55). -Jay McGowan/Matt Medler, July 2015. Other Behaviors: Advertise, Fight. Habitat: Rainforest, Evergreen Forest.
