    Equipment Note

NOTES: HHb filters in cut position; attenuators off on both recorder and microphone; apparent pair (at least a male and a female-plumaged bird, with the latter vocalizing), but possibly an adult male and an immature female; it is possible that the calls given here are begging calls in that the male was seen to extract items from trunks and give them to the female; moving up and down slim (ca. 2-5 cm in diameter) trunks in scrubby forest at edge of recently burned clearing; both birds were well seen at about eye level (the female-plumaged bird had a dull-red cap); partly cloudy, breezy; NOTE: though we believed these birds were V. affinis at the time, I now believe that it is possible that they could have been V. passerinus.
