NOTES: Three young adults in large glass aquarium: extensive listening negative while specimens remained quiet on bottom. Physical activity stimulated only by strong prodding, usually followied immediately by one or more loud, sharp clicks, commonly in pairs and sometimes in longer trains resembling scrapes, accompanied by vigorous, evasive behavior with mouth closed tightly, tail elevated, and serrate barns raised aggressively. Fish, M.P. and W.H. Mowbray. 1970. Sounds of the Western North Atlantic fishes: a reference file of biological underwater sounds. Johns Hopkins Press. Baltimore. p. 2.
