NOTES: (Breeding Status: Not breeding. Behav. Context: Unknown. General Climate: Cyclic wet-dry. Gen. Habitat: Great Basin desert. Cover Density: Sparse. Temp: 40s.) Recorded at Malheur Field Stations. May [sic?] cuts, trying to avoid outside noise. Interesting fall calls from this species. Recorded on cut.

[This is the Primary Song of the species (sensu BNA) combining the fully peaked form of the Initially Peaked Vocalization (IPV) with type 1 and type 2 Regularly Repeated Vocalizations (RR1s, RR2s). See Figure 1c of Smith (1970a. Song-like displays in Sayornis species. Behaviour 37:64-84) for RRVs and Figure 1 of Smith (1970b. Displays and message assortment in Sayornis species. Behaviour 37: 85-112) for IPVs. Note that the BNA account appears to have confused the IPVs with RR1s and the RR1s with RR2s. Typical of the species, the vast majority of the 170 vocalizations here represent IPVs, with RR1s given only on occasion (0:14, 1:10, 1:16, 1:57, 3:29, 3:40, 4:14, 4:21, 4:45, and 4:52), and an RR2 given only once (1:12). Quality added (2-3, 2 - the hiss is excessive in places and there is a bit of road noise as well, but approaches 2-1 in the last part) - 5 April 2005]
