Observation details
Continuing male, first found at Lorne Park Estates (private property) by Luc Fazio this morning. Nancy McPherson and Garth Riley refound the bird off Tall Oaks Park this afternoon. Best viewing was from the end of Oakville Ave S, which is just east of Tall Oaks Park. Smaller than nearby Greater Scaup, pure black back and clean white flanks. The tuft was small and wispy - perhaps it is currently growing in? But the bird showed no obvious signs of hybridism. Interestingly the bird had orange eyes, while the scaup had eyes that were slightly more yellowish (I didn't know this was a field mark).
