Observation details
***mega; first NJ record and one of very few records for Eastern North America (multiple Eastern Canadian records, but the only other eastern US record I know about is a recently unearthed/ identified one from Massachusetts from a few years back, fide Marshall Iliff); this bird was found earlier today by Sam Galick inside the impoundment just past dogleg along wildlife drive ID: This shorebird was like a pale Greater Yellowlegs with a very pale face and head, smooth pale gray back with thin, white u-shaped edges to upperparts feathers; slightly upswept bill with paler blue-gray base; older upperwing coverts and ragged, brownish tertials; dull greenish legs; white tail with gray barring; and most notably, a HUGE white wedge on back, widest at rump and narrowest in upper back; eventually flew off with yellowlegs, etc at ~3:23 PM
