Observation details
Unexpected. Two birds foraging along kelp wrack on cobble beach just north of parking lot for Otis Perkins Day Park. Identified by black breast bands, face patterns, and slightly yellowish throat on one bird. Distinguished from pipits by longer primary projection, stouter bills, and absence of tail-bobbing. Possibly A. e. alpina or A. e. arcticola due to white eye line and streaked back. Photos.
