Observation details
Phoebe was perched in the prairie atop a tall shrub tree, just southwest of the wooden outhouse. Observed this bird sally out several times to catch insects. Briefly vocal; then last seen heading south over prairie. Drab gray/dark western phoebe-like bird with distinct tawny rufous belly and coverts, contrasting black notched tail to overall pale charcoal gray upper parts, flattish crown when relaxed, and dark bill. In flight, pale gray wings sharply clash with black sharp edged tail. Larger and more elongated body shape than Vermilion or Eastern. Photographed.
