Observation details
This species has been reliable lately on this road and a nearby road. Adult males are a little easier to identify plumage-wise than females, although the short-tailed structure is a good field mark for either sex at greater distances. Combination of absence of rufous tones and absence of scaling in plumage with pale gray head and gray (not red) bill are good field marks for adult male PBGD. Purple gloss of wing spots not always visible, and in these photos actually not visible.
