Observation details
heading south at dusk, photos taken in fading light. Among the Wood Ducks flying east we noted an aythya sp. heading south from a distance and was first thought to be a non-breeding plumaged male Redhead. Looking through photos, wing stripe not bold enough for scaup, no sign of facial or bill markings (ruling out RNDU, Scaup), showing grayish wash in flanks, evidence of yellow eye, gray wing stripe, and despite the poor lighting a dull reddish tone to the head point to Redhead.
